P7 Sports Diversity Day

15th Jun 2015
P7 Sports Diversity Day

Herbert Smith Freehills LLP were in school in June to run a Sports-Diversity Day. The company are already involved with the school as they have volunteers who come to school weekly to read with pupils in an attempt to increase pupils’ enjoyment in reading and boost the company’s activity in the community. The firm has worked with P7 pupils this year and that is why the P7 classes were selected to take part in the day. As well as reading with pupils HSF also expressed an interest in being involved in a diversity project with the school and it was decided this would be delivered in the form of a sports day. The company liaised regularly with Miss Ward and Miss Monahan to plan the logistics of the event. Sports and diversity was infused on the day by:

*playing sports from other countries

*dividing the children into teams with country names & providing the flag of that country to travel with the team (namely Chile, France, Iceland, Canada, Madagascar & New Zealand.)

*linking the sports to continents

The sports on the day included:

*Tag rugby & tug-of-war ~ Europe & Africa

*Rounders/Athletics ~ The Americas

*Circuits/Mini-games ~ Australasia

Each game included a team from Miss Hyland's class & a team from Mrs Cooke's class so the competition was on!

HSF also provided refreshments for the day including a water bottle for each child and a platter of exotic fruits for the pupils to sample.

Herbert Smith Freehills had 9 members of staff at school to help out with the event including Conall Bailie , a past pupil of Holy Rosary. (HSF has 3 of our past pupils on their staff!)

Holy Rosary PS would like to thank Herbert Smith Freehills for planning such a fun and active day – the pupils had a ball!
