Newcomer Support

At Holy Rosary PS we are very lucky to have pupils, and their families, who come from all around the world. That means we have a diverse range of language backgrounds amongst our pupils. We often celebrate this diversity by inviting families to share their language and culture with us at events throughout the school year. As well as that, all pupils have the opportunity to learn an additional language at Holy Rosary from native speaking language teachers: Ana (Spanish) and Ms Li (Mandarin Chinese). Holy Rosary recognises that being able to speak more than one language is an important and advantageous skill in today's society.

To help pupils fully embrace life at Holy Rosary we offer additional support to any pupils who are learning English as an additional language. This takes the format of group work with support teachers. One of the quickest ways to learn a language is to be immersed in it and most of the group work activities focus on promoting competence in talking and listening through games, songs and stories.

This year Mrs Beldowska-Breen and Mrs Blaney are working with targeted pupils for Newcomer Support.

If you have any questions about Newcomer Support please contact the Diversity Leader: Ms Clare Ward.
